The STEM Council released the 2019-2020 Iowa STEM Evaluation Report, which highlights the statewide impact of STEM Council’s programs on PreK-12 students and teachers across the state. The independent assessment examines eighteen indicators ranging from student interest in STEM, public support of STEM and postsecondary majors and career trends in STEM.

The STEM Council is now accepting applications for the STEM BEST (Business Engaging Students and Teachers) Program, which brings schools and businesses together to provide students with real workplace experiences while earning academic credits. The opportunity is available to Iowa public and non-public school districts and buildings serving students in grades K-12.

More than 80 Iowans, made up of board members from each of the six STEM Regions and the STEM Network team, joined the Regional STEM Advisory Boards Virtual Mega Meeting earlier this month. The focus of the meeting was to share insights, exchange best practices and discuss future priorities and opportunities, thereby assuring a smooth landscape of excellence across the regions.

Soon after the STEM Council was established in 2011, the idea was fleshed out by a committee for a system that shares some of the nation’s best STEM lessons, labs, kits, software and professional development with PreK-12 students and educators in school, in afterschool programs and in other educational settings, especially targeting those most in need.

Business and industry have been helping Iowa develop the next generation of high-demand workers since 2009 through the Iowa STEM Teacher Externship Program. This six-week summer program matches educators with business hosts for a unique learning experience where classroom learning can be applied to local career opportunities.
