About the Scale-Up Program

Through legislative appropriation, the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council is able to offer exemplary STEM programs throughout the state. The STEM Scale-Up Program has demonstrated success in increasing student interest and achievement in STEM across all demographics. Here's the statistics that prove it.

Through a rigorous review process, the STEM Council selected thirteen programs to be offered on the 2024-2025 STEM Scale-Up Program menu to provide high-quality STEM education offerings to schools, afterschool programs and other settings for grades pre-K through 12.

These programs range from building robots and coding programs to conducting agricultural field experiences and learning about STEM careers. All went through a rigorous review process at both the national and state level, demonstrating an appeal to diverse youth, success in improving academic performance, evidence of integrating STEM concepts, development of school-business-community partnerships and sustainability beyond STEM Council financial support.

Since 2012, the STEM Council has partnered with some of the most successful STEM education programs that have reached up to 100,000 young Iowa learners each year, engaging them in exemplary STEM curriculum across the state. Thousands of educators in and out of schools across Iowa have delivered exciting units in robotics, coding, engineering design, agriculture, animal science and more. “Seeing children actively engaged in STEM in classrooms and afterschool programs is what the STEM Council is all about. As external evaluations show a positive impact, the Scale-Up programs will continue to be vital partners in our mission to deliver the best possible STEM education to Iowa students.”

Governor and Co-Chair of the Iowa Governor's STEM Advisory Council, Kim Reynolds

“The feedback from educators and students is encouraging. When a student says, ‘I want to be an engineer,’ it’s gratifying knowing these programs are feeding the workforce pipeline.”
