Active Working Group: Broadband for Iowa

Charge: Create a proposal to suggest a solution to meet the most pressing challenge to top quality STEM education in Iowa. Support the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council’s agenda by targeting, student interest/achievement, technology-enhanced instruction, STEM teacher recruitment/preparation, post-secondary readiness, STEM policy, public awareness, public-private partnership and STEM for ALL.

Active Working Group: STEM BEST Selection and Guidance

Charge: Design RFP (completed). Select applicants for recommendation to the executive committee for funding.

Active Working Group: STEM Engagement of School Counselors

Charge: Identify ways and means for the STEM Council to provide support and connect with school counselors across Iowa. Propose recommendations for the Council to partner, support and connect with schools counselors to provide quality STEM education.

Active Working Group: STEM Seal of Approval—Endorsement and Recognition

Charge: Complete the establishment of a protocol for the recognition/endorsement/seal of approval for non-STEM Council programs, assets, initiatives to be identified as aligned with and supporting of STEM Council objectives.

Active Working Group: STEM Active Learning Community Partners

Charge: Identify and make recommendations for ways in which the STEM Council can support out-of-school STEM education. Deliver a set of recommendations for ways in which the STEM Council can support out-of-school STEM education. Report progress to STEM Council on December 9, 2014; March 30, 2015; June 23, 2015; and produce final project by July 1, 2015.

Active Working Group: STEM Support of Arts and Culture

Charge: Identity ways and means for STEM Council to support and interface with arts & culture across Iowa. Provide the Council recommendations to partner, support and integrate with art and culture assets and professionals.

Active Working Group: STEM Support of Agriculture Science

Charge: Identify how the Council can support agricultural science, including how ag. science might satisfy graduation requirements as core science credited.

Active Working Group: Computer Science

Charge: Develop strategies for engaging youth in computer programming and coding and provide recommendations for sustaining interest in computer science beyond "Code Iowa" and the "Hour of Code." Present a set of recommendation to the STEM Council to engage more Iowa youth in computer science, including programming/coding/app development.
